Get ready – the Ipad revolution has just begun

PR practitioners, content marketers, and similar – watch out for the tablet (or may I say Ipad) revolution! I guess you better be there or you will become square or screwed.

We all know by now that the new ipad3 will be launched the 16th of March. That’s great news. And we also know that the this tablet will contain some amazing features like much faster and more powerful A5X processor, a HD display with 2048×1536 pixels, 4G LTE Data connection and new iSight 5 Megapixel camera, and more. That’s even better news.

But the biggest most interesting news, from my point of view, is that the tablets are gaining huge market shares at the expense of computers(?), and that the Ipads now conquer the tablet market, entirely.

Avinash Kaushik recently said on Google+ that Tim Cook told the audience during the “gdgt” conference in SF:

“We’ve sold almost 15.5 million iPads last quarter alone. We sold more iPads in the last quarter alone than any PC manufacturer sold in their entire line.”

And Michael Oryl editor-in-chief for Mobile Burn wrote:

“Cook went on to say that his company has sold over 55 million iPads since the initial iPad tablet wasintroduced back in 2010.”

The reason? According to Tim Cook, it has to do with 200.000+ amazing apps which no other tablets have.

For content marketers, PR practitioners and others – this is your reality now.

Look at Avinash Kaushik’s picture and Tim cook’s graph, below, and think about it.

When I worked at the Swedish company Ericsson 1999, their “future home lab” presented the Tablet, which was a wifi “Ipad”. They also developed an application layer for the telco industry that no one could get a grip on what it was. Both things were put on hold in 2001 with the downturn.

The one making that decision, now learnt their lesson i guess :)

Great post, you are absolutely right, the iPad and other tablets has opened a lot of possibilities. When it comes to the iPad 3 it will “only” offer 3G in Europe. The LTE/4G compatibility that initially was mentioned by Apple is not available on the frequencies used in Europe. In Europe we will be able to use 3G (with HSPA+, which is pretty fast on the other hand).

More info (for the Swedish speaking) could be find for example here:

OK, so many units sold but where’s your analysis on the effects of this? You say that the revolution has just begun… On screen key boards and apps. Where does it take us? Professionally I only see the iPad beeing used instead of pen and paper taking notes, and sometimes instead of a paper manuscript at presentations. That’s short of revolutionary in my book.

For the moment, I haven’t got any statistics for how people are using their Ipads. But I know they are doing a lots of other things than “taking notes”, being social for example, particularly on Facebook. The revolution that has just begun is about more and more and more people will always be online on their mobile devices which will generate in even more sophisticated mobile services. Apple iPhone and IPad have some kind of pole position in this race.
